I haven’t felt motivated lately or even the slightest bit cheeky. Not that that is a requirement to post, but I prefer the words I share to have a genuine sentiment to them.
TW (trigger warning): death/grief
A few weeks back I received news that a very important person from another chapter in my life had passed away. It took me days to process what it meant that she was no longer here and talking with a lot of old friends about our memories we shared to help us all process the significance she had in each one of our lives.
I don’t think I’m fully ready yet to write about what she truly meant to me or this world. I will save that for when the time finally feels right.
Writing was one of our deepest connections. She meant the world to me at one point in my early twenties, a life changing kind of person. We hadn’t spoken in awhile, but connections like that – often can go unspoken and the love remains just as bold in memories of nostalgia.
Soon I will find the space to write about her, maybe more on here – maybe finally getting around to try to get that story published that I dedicated to her all of those years ago.
Life feels fleeting in these kinds of moments and for all of January it was saturating our lives through waves of celebrities we all worshiped in some way passing- and then it hit my personal life like a punch in the gut and I found myself trying to gasp for air.
So alas, here a few things that have been keeping me busy that I recommend checking out:
Pick up this book at the library or your local bookstore:
Ain’t Burned All Bright by Jason Reynolds – This book NEEDS to be read by PHYSICAL COPY only. Part of the main magnificent beauty of this book is in the physical pages (normally I’m pro whatever format works for you, but you will not get the essence of this book if you do not view it in its physical form). I don’t want to say too much to spoil any bit of it – but I promise this book will bring you joy.
Album that I recently listened to:
I put Simon & Garfunkel’s Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, & Thyme on my record player a week back and forgot how much serotonin fills my body whenever I take the time to put a record on. Listening to a record is really a whole activity and from side A to side B that album brought me the peace of mind that I needed.
TV Show you need to watch if you haven’t yet:
Archive 81 is a Netflix series so strange, that it is impossible to look away. Listen, I’m not a sci-fi/paranormal fan by any means (full disclosure that you may judge me for: I couldn’t even get through Stranger Things….) but there’s something about Archive 81 that is so fascinating and thriller-like that I’m hooked. It could be the actors that make the characters so likable, but truthfully the story itself is so fascinating that I’m adding it to my list of recommendations.
Throwback Video to Watch:
TLC CrazySexyCool Medley Performance at the 1995 MTV Music Awards. No words needed, just rewatch the magic: Link
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST….
QUEERDLE – Okay yeah sure you have heard of Wordle, but have you heard of Queerdle?
It’s Wordle, but gay.
That’s it. That’s all there is for now.
Remember to be kind, you never know the weight of significance of what the people around you are carrying.
